Hashtory: I discover hashing in late 1999. I was outposted through the Australian Government from Canberra - Australia's political capital in the East - to Kalgoorlie - Oz's gold mining capital in the hot, desert West - for around a year. The change in lifestyle was a bit of a culture shock, and I remember spending many a night glued to the phone with friends and family back home desperately wishing I could return. That all changed when one day my boss, "Futtock", introduced me to Kalgoorlie-Boulder H3 . . .

Wow, what had I been doing with my life up to that point?! I was hooked on the raucous singing, down downs, sociable people, strange clothes and atmosphere of exuberance, acceptance and appreciation of diverse personalities, and a collective drive to make their Hash experience the best it could be.

I was scheduled to return to Canberra a few months after joining, so put in as many runs as possible before that deadline, and was named the day before returning, while being given the specific instruction to start with Capital H3 in Canberra upon my return.

I remember nervously sending an email to the Capital H3 website and receiving a telephone call from a man who identified himself as "Toyboy" (remember I wasn't totally used to Hash culture as yet, so this was pretty remarkable to me). I further remember (cringe) asking him whether the group drank and swore at all, like Kalgoorlie Hash did.. He laughed at me. He laughed at me some more and then said "Of course we f*&#ing do!!". And yes, I got a down-down for that on my virgin run with Capital H3 . . .

How I Got My Name: Um, errr, well, that's an interesting story . . . It's one of those things that need to be discussed on a one-on-one basis . . .

Hashpresent: Hash-wise, I haven't looked back since then. I've volunteered my time in a variety of committee roles with different Hash clubs in Canberra - haberdash, GM, webmistress - but now Hash mainly with Capital H3, whle still trying to regularly attend events held by neighbouring Hash clubs.

I attended my first Nash Hash in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Western Australia in 2003, and was an immediate fan, enjoying the camarderie of the event, in particular swapping shirts (he said he wanted my DNA??), Hash Acts (my first time) and of course, the new friendships. Of course, the fact that I met the love of my life, Horse, there, adds to the fond memories and other 'benefits' you can get from being a Hasher!

2005, 2006 and the beginning of 2007 were busy for many of us in Canberra, as we successfully bid for Aussie Nash Hash 2007 at Central Coast Nash Hash in April 2005. The 'Fat Cat Nash Hash' was based on a political theme (as Canberra is down-under's political hub), and as 'Minister for Propaganda' I was kept pretty busy. I'm happy to say the event was a success and much fun was had!.

Hashfuture:

Non-Hashing Life: Contrary to the above, Hashing is not my life (although I sometimes have to rethink that statement after a particularly full "Hash Weekend"). My civilian life is spent managing an Australian Government advertising campaign and also designing websites for small business. I'm a 4x4/camping fanatic, home improver, pet lover, tireless gardener, avid reader, aspiring writer, mildly interested bike-rider, photography enthusiast, obsessive organizer, social butterfly, sympathetic friend and devoted partner, and am currently learning to play the violin and sing!

On On,
